White Rhino Coffee
White Rhino Coffee was opening a Roastery/Cafe in the Dallas area and wanted 2 murals to help people learn about the coffee/roasting process as well as add a unique identity to their new space.
One piece was all about processing a coffee bean from the farm all the way to your cup. The other was focused on the roaster, labeling the main parts of the machine and showing the stages of a bean as it's roasted.

What I loved about this project was that White Rhino wanted these pieces to be engaging for people - their main goal was to help educate people on these processes of coffee. This is where I think good design really shines - when it looks great and has a distinct style and it also has a clear message that is easy to follow just by looking at it.
We wanted each step of the coffee process to stand out and have its own unique illustration while still keeping each one connected to the other. Using arrows and placement helped us take the viewer on a journey following a seed all the way to a brewed cup of coffee.
The roaster painting took a bit of a different style, but we didn't want them to be too alike so it wouldn't feel overdone or boring. The roaster resembled the actual machine they have at that location and was labeled to explain the different parts. The beans above show the temps and colors of the beans as they're roasted - this was an important element to help people see the specific color change the beans go through.

The roaster and beans were painted right onto the wall. There was a shelf just above the roaster that gave a perfect space for the roasting-beans diagram.
The large 'coffee journey' piece was done on large sheets of metal installed a couple inches out from the wall. This gave a great frame for the piece but made it feel more intentional than just painting a rectangle to start.
